FAQs: What to Know About SWAY

Got questions? You're not the only one. Whether you're curious about how SWAY works, who it's for, or what support might look like—this page has answers. And if you don’t see your question here, just reach out.

How much does SWAY cost?

It depends on which services you use and your insurance plan (Northwell Health accepts most major insurance plans). As needed, we can explore options to help make things more affordable.

Are services virtual, in-person, or both?

It’s up to you! You can choose to meet with your team in whichever way is comfortable. Many people choose a mix of in-person and virtual sessions. However, we usually like to meet you in-person for your first session, so we can get to know each other. We can meet you in the community, if you wish.

Do I have to take medication?

Not necessarily. In some cases, the SWAY doctor may suggest medication as an option to help you feel better. But it’s not required, and we will ensure you have the information you need to make the best decision for you.

How often do I need to be seen by the team?

It depends on what you need! We recommend that you meet with the team more often at the start to get a feel for our services and connect with the team, so you can find what works best for you.

Do I have to get all my services with SWAY, or can I continue to use other providers?

Yes, we ask that you receive all your mental health services from SWAY, so our team can work together to create a comprehensive, coordinated, and effective plan to fit your needs.

How long does SWAY provide support?

SWAY is a time-limited program (usually 2 years), and most of the people we work with stay with us for about 1 to 2 years. If you need support after 2 years, we can connect you to community services.

Do I need to use all of SWAY’s services?

While we encourage you to explore as many services as you can to get the full experience of SWAY and meet the different members of our team, it’s completely your choice what you want to try. You can focus on the services that feel most relevant and helpful to you!
